Saint Kitts and Nevis Beaches


Saint Kitts and Nevis have many incredible beaches. There are several black sand beaches on the north eastern side of the island. The black and grey sand forms from the volcanic rocks near the coastline. The island also have several grey sand beaches where the volcanic rock mixes with coral washed up on shore and mixes to form grey sand. Listed below are some of the more common beaches on the islands.

Friars Bay – Located on the calmer Caribbean side of the island, Friars bay provides a great beach for swimming with calm waters. This beach can get crowded as this is a good family beach for tourists. The north side of Friars bay is much more rugged and rough.

Frigate Bay – South. This beach is also located on the Caribbean Sea side of the island. There are several hotels and restaurants on this mile long stretch of beach. This beach is popular for watersports including wind surfing, water skiing, snorkeling and swimming.

Frigate Bay – North. Located just across the bay from the south beach on the Atlantic side of the island. Several larger hotels are located here. The water is a bit more rough but there are places with calmer water.

White House Bay – This beach is great for snorkeling. There is a small sunken ship just off shore within easy reach for swimmers and snorkeling. A small rocky reef lies just off the beach protecting the beach from rough waters.

Sandy Bank – This beach is located on the Atlantic side of the island but is a little more calmer that some other beaches located on the east side of the island. This beach is much less crowded as there are no hotels or restaurants.

Turtle Bay - This is adjacent to Sandy Bank beach. It a stretch of white sand beach that offers surfing possibilities and much seclusion.

Turtle Beach – Turtle beach is often mistaken for Turtle Bay located on the northern coast. Turtle beach is located at the extreme end of the South East Peninsula. There are a few bars and restaurants located on this beach. This is a good place to visit with the vervet monkeys as they frequent this location quite often. They are know to approach tourist and site with them looking for handouts.

Cockleshell Bay – This is a long beach that offers fine, white sand and great views of Nevis.

Dieppe Bay Beach – This beach is one of the better beaches to snorkel and sun bath. There is a large reef that provides protection from larger waves. This is a blank sand beach located where the Atlantic and Caribbean meet.

Pump Bay - Pump Bay is located in Sandy Point and offers calm waters for beginning divers and snorkelers. It is located just beneath the Brimstone Hill Fortress
