Puerto Vallarta Airport and Transportation Information
The closest airport to Puerto Vallarta is Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport ( PVR ). It is located a few miles to the north of the city. Most major airlines provide scheduled daily service to many US cities. The airport is small compared to large city standards and there can be a wait when more than 1 or 2 aircraft are in.
It is best to take the taxis or bus service while in Puerto Vallarta. The taxi cost about 50 pesos for a local trip and 200 pesos for a longer trip. No need to rent a car as the city is not that big. The bus service is good and not to complicated. Check your local hotel for the times and departures. Most hotels will also offer airport pickup and drop off. Make sure you agree on a price before leaving. It is customary to tip the taxi drivers a little after a safe trip.
When traveling through the airport, do not take a taxi ride from the timeshare salesmen. They will take you to a timeshare presentation instead. Instead, go directly to the official looking taxi kiosk and get a taxi there. Settle on a price before you leave the airport.
The taxi ride will be one of the most exiting activities you take during your stay at Puerto Vallarta. The drive really fast and provide no seat belts. For those of you that remember, this is definitely and “E” ticket.
