The weather in Playa del Carmen is warm and tropical. There are two distinct seasons, the dry season and the wet season. The dry season starts in December and runs through May. The wet season starts in June and runs through November. Playa del Carmen receives several inches of rain during this period. Most of the rain is in the form of thunderstorms that form in the late afternoon and early evening.
Playa del Carmen and neighboring cities like Cancun and Cozumel are located on the Caribbean ocean and can be affected by hurricanes. The last hurricane to damage Playa del Carmen was in 2005.
