Sailing – The island has plenty of opportunity for tourist to sail, either from charter boats or rentals. The prevailing trade winds provide a constant breeze perfect for sailing many types of boats. Hiking – There are many hiking trails on the island. The trails range travel through unspoiled rain forest, mountains, hill to coastal plains. Eco Tours – There are many tour companies the offer tourist the opportunity to view the variety of tropical birds, plants and animals in the rain forest. Tennis and Golfing – Both of these activities are popular. There are many tennis courts available to tourists. There are a few 18 hole golf courses on the islands. Martinique Travel TipsThe currency is the Euro. This means the cost to visit this island is very high based on the current exchange rates. The US dollar is not accepted anywhere on the island so change currency at the bank or before you go.Most of the tourists are French. Few visitors are from the US. The official language is French and most people do not speak English. Many of the locals also speak a form of Caribbean Creole that is a combination of French, English, Spanish and other languages. The dress code is higher than many surrounding Caribbean nations. Most night clubs and restaurants do not allow shorts and tennis shoes. Very Expensive compared to other Caribbean destinations but offers the tourist a European culture. There is an active volcano on the island. It has not erupted for over 100 years but provides an opportunity to get close to one. Drive on the right side of the road. Many businesses take the month of July and August off.
