La Paz Activities and AttractionsThe most popular attractions for the La Paz area is centered around the ocean and ocean activities. There are over 900 small and large islands in the Sea of Cortez so no wonder the main activity is water sports. Fishing - the waters near La Paz are renowned for their fertile fishing grounds. Many large game fish including Tuna, Yellowtails, Mahi Mahi and sailfish of many types can be found in these waters. Many charter boats offer tourist the chance to catch these large gamefish. Scuba Diving and Snorkeling are also very popular activities. The waters are clear and warm averaging in the 70s and 80s depending on the time of year. Whale watching in the winter months is the main Eco Attraction. Gray whales migrate to the warmer waters of Baja California each winter and return to Alaska during the summer. Many charter boats offer whale watching excursions. Other whale species include Orcas, Fin Back, Blue whales and Sperm whales. Many species of dolphin and sea lion area also common in these waters.
