Jamaica Attractions and ActivitiesWater sports – There are plenty of things to do in Jamaica in and around the water. The coastal waters in Jamaica are warm, clear and excellent for Scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming. Most resorts are located on white sandy beaches with shallow waters.Other Water Activities – Other popular water activities include parasailing, wind surfing, glass bottom boats and a variety of ocean cruises. There are also many jet ski rentals available that offer the tourist a great way to see more remote parts of the island. Horseback Riding – Jamaica is an excellent place to go horseback riding. The island offers beach riding, trail rides and rides though the rain forests. ATV Tours – There are several tour companies that offer ATV and jeep tours to tourists. These range from an hour to a whole day. The longer rides include lunch and beverages. Historical Sites – there are many historical sites located on the island. Some of the more popular sites include older English settlements and harbors. There are many gardens and churches of interest as well. Natural Wonders – The island has several large rivers that tourist can float down. There are numerous waterfalls, forests and secluded beaches that other Caribbean islands do not offer. Travel TipsLanguage – English is the predominant language spoken by anyone working in the tourist industry. Many of the inhabitants also speak Jamaican Patios. This is a form of English with many other words include from other languages. Drive on the left side of the road. There are not many roads the travel north to south and back. There are few but they are windy, long and not as safe. Traveling through the interior of the island can take much longer as the roads are windy and not as maintained. The official currency is the Jamaican Dollar. Most hotels, all attractions and most restaurants accept the US dollar. Local shops may not accept US currency so be prepared if venturing outside a tourist area. Why go to JamaicaThere are many different types of activities available in Jamaica the other Caribbean islands cannot offer. The different geographies like arid beaches, plains, rain forests and mountain regions provide the tourist with many types of activities. The island is rich in music history. Many famous artists and bands started in Jamaica. Many other artists and bands are getting started in Jamaica now. Go down to the local club and listen to the rhythm of the island. The island is less expensive than the US. It is not dirt cheap but is less than comparable locations in the US. |
