Dominica Beaches and Points of Interest

Dominica is a volcanic island covered with lush tropical vegetation. The tropical forests grow right to the waters edge in most undeveloped places. This means that the beaches in Dominica are not the same as others in the Caribbean. They are a more rocky, the sand is not as fine and the beaches are narrower and shorter.

The beaches are typically black sand beaches. Several beaches have golden and yellow colored beaches. The beaches tend to be smaller and narrower than other beaches. There are a few to find. The best beaches in Dominica are located at the northern western shore near the town of Portsmouth.

Other good beaches can be found in Cabrits National Park. There are several beaches here that offer great snorkeling and diving. The Park is open to everyone and provides exploration opportunities both on land and underwater.
