Antigua Airport and TransportationThe Antigua airport ( VC Bird International Airport ANU ) is located on the northeast corner of the island. Many large airlines have daily scheduled flights. Many flights leave from Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico. There are many taxis available for rent. Rates to popular destinations to and from the airport are fixed. Many of the larger resorts also offer shuttle services to and from the airport. Many large and small rental car agencies are also available at the airport and many other locations around the islands. Additional Tourist InformationMost of Antigua is arid and dry, very much like a desert. This is because the island was a primary sugar cane producing nation and all the tropical forest where cut down to make room for more sugar cane fields. This resulted in the deforestation that has never recovered.Entry and Exist Requirements – All US and European travelers are required to have a valid passport. Money – The Eastern Caribbean dollar is the official currency but most all places accept the US Dollar. There is no need to convert your money unless you want to have a souvenir. Tipping and Gratuity – This is the same as the US. 10-15% for good service. What to wear – casual clothing is the best choice. Beach attire is not appropriate in the towns and cities. Camouflage clothing is also not allowed and may be confiscated. Electricity – most of the hotels have 110 volt. |
